Virulance factors and antibiotic resistance of staphylococcus isolated from chicken carcasses

Abstract (EN)

In this study, samples taken from breast, neck and wing part of chicken carcasses in two different stages of slaughter, in Private Chicken Slaughterhouse in Ankara were used as a material. S. aureus and coagulase negative Staphylococci from collected carcasses materials were isolated, identified and searched virulence factors and determined antibiotic-resistance in these materials. After the feather plucking stage of the slaughter, in the breast, neck and wing parts of carcasses at the rate of 26,9%, 42,3%, 30,7%, before packaging stage at the rate of, 30,4%, 39,1%, 30,4 % S.aureus were isolated and identified respectively. In those S.aureus isolates 100% coagulase (+), 100% hemolysis (+) 96,6% slime (+), 96,6% mannitol fermentation (+), 92,3% protein A (+), 84,7% yellow pigment (+) and, 15,2% white pigment (+), 81,3% DNase (+), 62,7 % TNase (+), were determined. While isolates of S. aureus were resistant to the rate of 5% tetracyline, 69,4% penicillin, 41,5% gentamicin, 37,2% clindamycin , 33% ceftazidime, 4,2% ofloxacine, 3,3% cefalothine, 3,3% ciprofloxacine, 7,6% ceftriaxon, 13,5% erytromycine, 50,8% oxacillin, and 4,2% chloramphenicole, novobiosine and vancomycine resistance were not found. In conclusion, the density of S.aureus at the breast, neck and wing part of chicken carcasses show that in the chicken company, hygiene and sanitation rules are not applied. Besides, existence of virulence factors and determination of high level antibiotic resistance shows the necessity of taking preventive measure for health of human.
