Abstract (EN)
Mebrure Gönenç was born on July 1, 1900 in Istanbul. She started her education life in Istanbul Üsküdar Girls Industry School, then went to Beşiktaş İttihad-i Osmani School and finally Arnavutköy American College. He chose teaching as a profession and started his career in 1919 by giving English lessons at Çamlıca High School. She has taught in Istanbul's favorite schools. Ms. Mebrure was chosen as the translator for the Black Sea Ferry, which set out in 1926 with the aim of introducing Turkey to European Countries with the Black Sea Ferry. Thus, she had the opportunity to see abroad and lived the most unforgettable days of her life. On her return from her trip, Ms. Mebrure in 1927 Dr. married to Remzi Bey. His first daughter, Füsun, was born in 1929, and his second daughter, Gülgün, was born in 1933. In parallel with the rights she gained for women's participation in political life in Turkey, Ms. Mebrure gradually found herself in politics. She first became a member of the CHF and later became one of the three women elected to the Adana municipal council. She was among those who greeted Mustafa Kemal Pasha during his trip to Adana. As a female municipal council member, she won the appreciation of Mustafa Kemal Pasha. Ms. Mbrure, her husband, Dr. After Remzi Bey was appointed to Mersin, he was elected as a member of Mersin Municipality Council in the 1934 municipal elections. On December 5, 1934, as an experienced politician, she was nominated as a Member of Parliament from Afyon after the women were given the right to vote and be elected. Ms. Mebrure served as MP for three terms in Afyon. She won the title of the first deputy to take an oath in the parliament, since Afyon, the constituency, is first in the alphabetical order. She was the president of the Turkish Deaf, Dumb and Blind Association, which was founded in Ankara in 1950. Dr. With Remzi Bey being the general manager of the Red Crescent between 1942-1952, Ms. Mebrure and her husband participated in various aid activities. Mebrure Gönenç passed away in 1981 in Ankara. She has been the face of modern women in Turkey from the Ottoman Empire to the Republic, both with her educator identity and her politician identity.
