Approach of the members of the TBMM (Grand National Assembly of Turkey) to the environmental problems, urbanization and environmental problems department

The objective of this dissertation is to demonstrate the sensitivity, approaches, and interests with regard to the issue of Environmental Problems, of the parliamentarians in the TBMM where the legal arrangements that constitute a basis for the environmental policies are enacted, through data based on an in-situ study. The thesis covers 550 parliamentarians in the 23rd Term in the TBMM. The thesis was kept limited to the questionnaire technique, literature scanning, and observation.In the thesis, primarily the questions of the questionnaire were determined and face-to-face interviews were made with the parliamentarians, subjects of the study. The results obtained were evaluated by taking the varied categories into account. The tables and graphs composed were put to an assessment and analyses were conducted, and the thesis was completed by construing them in the manner that is in integrity with the theoretical section of it.In Turkey, significant improvements were ensured with regard to the field of environments but still a series of bottlenecks in terms of planning, implementation, and supervision mechanisms that still await solution are available. Solution of them will be possible to a substantial extent thanks to the fact that an actual cooperation and coordination atmosphere is created by all the related groups.Today, the TBMM is obliged to carry out important duties in order to provide the Environmental Policy with sustainability in Turkey. This task of the Parliament appears through the different angles of environmental management, such as environmental law, environmental institutionalization, and environmental policies. Moreover, existence of an Environmental Commission fills a substantial gap on this ground and ensures that the environmental activities in the TBMM are carried out at first hand.In sum, like the complexity of the environmental concepts, the differences in the approaches of the members of the TBMM to numerous environmental issues were clearly seen as a result of the questionnaire study conducted. Despite all these facts, the importance of the issue of environment will improve in our country as in elsewhere in the world and it will reach at clarity in implementation as long as its legal infrastructure is constituted. Although in the increase of environmental awareness TBMM members are to undertake significant tasks, it is a reality that the families, schools, non-governmental organizations and numerous public institutions are to be more sensitive.Keywords:1.Environmental Problems2.Environmental Consciousness3.Ecology4.Parliament5.Parliamentarian
