The field of supply chain has been constantly changing since the 1980s, when the concept was first used. The emergence of new business models, the increasing restructuring of businesses in different geographies, and the catalyst technologies and methods such as e-commerce and supply chains also need constant change. These processes are; project management, demand and order planning, category and product management, production planning and production, purchasing and procurement, logistics and finally supplier relations and cooperation management. In addition, at this stage, 3 different sectoral supply chain groups were defined. These are project-based, manufacturing-based, and retail/wholesale/e-commerce-based supply chains.
