Suppy chain management and the implementation of the electronic data interchange

SUMMARY SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT AND THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE ELECTRONIC DATA INTERCHANGE KEYWORDS: Supply Chain Management, Electronic Data Interchange, Automotive Increasing globalisation and price competition, customer demand in relation to quality and reliability along with the emerging technology which allows new way of commerce have increased interest in supply chain management. This study is related with the main principles of the supply chain and asserts that by using the Internet, which are still developing, the most efficient way of management of the supply chain can be found and the EDI implementation of the Internet can be successful. This study consists of five sections: The first section covers the main principle of the supply chain as well as its links. Furthermore, in this part various example of the implementation of supply chain management are given and the strategies in supply chain management and purchasing are explained. The second section, the relation between e-commerce and the supply chain is explained and the facilitation of the Internet within the supply chain is covered. The third section, makes emphasis on the importance of using information and information technology in the supply chain management. In addition, commonly used supply chain management practices are compared with each other. The fourth section, Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) that has a very important role in the supply chain management is explained. Moreover, this part covers existing EDI standards and their development as well as implementation and benefit of the EDI within various sectors. The implementation of the EDI in one automotive manufacturer in Turkey is studied at the fifth and final section. DC
