Using fuzzy multi-criteria desicion making techniques in supplier selection decisions: An application in the furniture industry

In modern environment, where competition is becoming more intense, it is critical for businesses to be competitive, reduce the costs of inputs such as labor, material, and capital, enhance their stock levels and business processes systems, and collaborate with their suppliers to improve the quality and speed of their operations. Low-quality goods can lead to inefficient procedures inside a corporation and a loss of market share. One of the most crucial phases is to choose suppliers that are aligned with the company's aims and objectives. In terms of sales, accounting, marketing, delivery department managers, and group assessment, making the supplier selection decision is critical. Decision-making is the process of selecting the best appropriate option from a set of choices in order to achieve a certain business objective. Multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) approaches are analytical methods that may be utilized to produce the most correct conclusion in this process and allow numerous strategic and operational elements to be evaluated. Nevertheless, because MCDM methods are unsuitable in circumstances when the assessed rates are verbal or fuzzy, fuzzy MCDM approaches are utilized. As a result, the most suited supplier selection methods for the furniture sales industry, Fuzzy AHP and Fuzzy TOPSIS, are fuzzy MCDM approaches in this study. The managers were given decision support by using decision matrices constructed based on the opinions of the company's decision makers, Fuzzy AHP for calculating criteria weights, and Fuzzy TOPSIS methodologies for evaluating the options.
