Evaluation of treatment-related neurological complications ofchildhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia patients in remission after treatment

Abstract (EN)

In our study, we aimed to evaluate the treatment-related neurological complications in children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) in remission whose treatment was completed. For this purpose, neurological examinations performed routinely in Gaziantep University Medical Faculty Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Outpatient Clinic and recorded in outpatient files were retrospectively analyzed. The data were obtained by examining the files taken from Gaziantep University Medical Faculty Hospital archive. 29.1% of the patients were 5-9 years old, 42.7% were 10-14 years old, 28.2% were ≥15 years old, 55.5% were boys and 44.5% were girls. 19.3% of them were in SRG, 62.4% in MRG and 18.3% in HRG risk class. 51.9% of the patients received radiotherapy, 3.6% (n = 4) had neurological symptoms, 21.8% (n = 24) had abnormal MRI findings, 0.9% (n = 1) It was found that there was an abnormal EEG finding. In conclusion, neurological evaluation of patients in remission who are diagnosed with ALL and completed maintenance therapy and early diagnosis and treatment of possible side effects are important. Longer-term prospective studies should be planned for the follow-up of neurological side effects during the treatment of ALL patients.
