The phenomenon of qiraat in Tafsīr al-Mazharī -The example of al-Sab'u't-Tivāl-

Senāullah Pānīpetī, known for his scholarly and Sufi identity, lived in the Indian Subcontinent during the 18th and 19th centuries. His work al-Tafsīru al-Mazharī in which he included Sufi interpretations has been analysed in different fields. However, it is seen that it has not been sufficiently researched in terms of qiraāt. The fact that Pānīpetī belongs to the Sufi tradition makes it important to analyse his tafsīr in detail in terms of qiraāt and to investigate the effect of qiraāt on his Sufi interpretations. This is because qiraāt differences play a critical role in the understanding and interpretation of the Qur'ān. In this study, it is aimed to contribute to the field by emphasising the effect of qiraāt differences on the meaning in a Sufi work. The study is limited to the suras known as al-Sab'u't-Tiwāl. The methodology of the study has been determined by taking into account the other tafsirs that are the source of Senāullah Pānīpetī's work, and the comments on qiraāt have been analysed. In this study, by using the document analysis method, Pānīpetī's approach to the differences in the related suras was analysed. It was observed that his Sufi tendency did not affect his qiraāt preferences and he did not make any Sufi interpretation. In some cases, it was found that he was contented with only mentioning the differences of qiraāt.
