Abstract (EN)
This study aims to analyze the views of academician mothers who have one child on having one child in depth. The working group consists of 9 academician mothers working at Karabuk University in the 2019-2020 academic year. In the research, phenomenological pattern, one of the qualitative research methods, was used. The data of the research were collected through a semi-structured interview form prepared by taking the expert opinion and face to face interview. The data obtained were analyzed by content analysis. According to the results of the analysis, mothers are responsible and sociable; On the other hand, they defined their only children as sociable, introverted and analytical. It has been observed that intensive work, difficult to care for the child and having children at a late age are effective factors that are effective in having a single child. It has been observed that mothers have both positive and negative feelings and thoughts about having a single child. As the easiest part of mothers having only one child is to be able to take care of them adequately and to decrease the responsibility; The most difficult part is that the child is alone. Mothers' wives support one child; it was observed that they received advice from others to continue with one child and to give birth to the second child. Moreover, all but one of the mothers' spouses do not want the second child and more than half of the mothers think of the second child. They define their parenting styles as democratic, protective and authoritarian; they find parents with more than one child indifferent, tired and violent; They expressed that they differed from parents who have more than one child with their protective, authoritarian and democratic aspects. More than half of the mothers want to have a second child; the rest were found to decide to continue with one child. Various suggestions were made according to the results obtained from the researches. Keywords: Single child, academician mother, phenomenological approach.
