Abstract (EN)

Matrix converters have attracted attention in both academic and industrial fields in recent years due to their sinusoidal input and output waveforms, bidirectional energy flow, controllable input power factor, lack of energy storage reactive elements and compact dimensions. Nowadays, the development of advanced power semiconductor devices has made widespread use of power switching circuits and other power electronics applications in commercial and industrial environments, especially in AC-DC conversion applications. The conventional rectifier uses a bridge diode, cannot perform any control function, and the energy flow is unidirectional. Bidirectional operation is possible by including antiparallel switches in the system, but it cannot be fully controlled. Alternative topologies such as matrix converters present future potential and are a research subject due to provide solutions these problems. Today productivity, volume and cost are the most important parameters in industrial applications. Matrix converters offers a solution that provides the parameters needed for AC-AC conversion, eliminating the need for reactive energy storage components used in a conventional rectifier-inverter based system. Matrix converters, which have not been widely used due to the difficulties caused by the commutation problems in the last 25 years, recently compete with inverter applications because of the advantages mentioned above and the solution of the commutation problems. In the literature, there is a great increase in the work carried out with matrix converters, especially in induction heating, electronic power transformer and rotating rectifier applications. In this study; the circuit topology of the single-phase matrix converter is given and the operation state of the single-phase matrix converter as AC-DC rectifier and the multimode operation are examined.
