Abstract (EN)
Domes, which are one of the oldest building types, can be covered both aesthetically and economically. With the development of materials science, domes were able to cover larger openings with smaller sections. Lighter domes were formed with smaller sections, thus, they were exposed to less earth quake force and less load was placed on the main bearing elements. However, the reduction of element sections also created stability problems. In this study, stability problems are discussed after a brief analysis of braced domes. Theuse of stiffening elements has been investigated for the safety of the joint points, which is an important factor in the loss of stability in braced domes. The rigid jointed ribbed dome and the dome which stiffened around the nodes were examined and compared based on the buckling coefficient value (λ > 10) determined by linearized buckling analysis. In this study, snow, wind, earth quake loads and asymmetrical loads that can cause buckling in the domes were applied to the modeled domes and combined. this two domes was analyzed with the SAP2000 computer program, then dimensioned and compared. In this study, a decrease of %20 in the weight of the structure was determined by stiffening the braced dome around the nodes. At the same time, there was no big difference between the models in terms of deflection. Although it is heavier than the designs made with linear analysis, construction safety is ensured without exception thanks to the λ > 10 limitation.
