Cultural construction of the news on the sales of Tekel Cigarette Section and Legislation on Land Conservation and use - 2008 hurriyet newspaper example

In this research, headlined as " Cultural Construction of the News on the Sale of TEKEL Cigarette Section and Legislation on Land Conservation and Use – 2008 Hurriyet Newspaper Example", the hypothesis of the news discourses constructed in relation with culture, power, ideology and hegemony is investigated. The cultural studies perspective suggests that through the news production process interrelated with representation and signification that are formed by language practices, "reality" cannot be constructed independently from the power, ideology, cultural and hegemonic discourses. In this context, the areas of Globalization and Agriculture, Agricultural Dynamics and Globalization in Turkey were defined. The means of agriculture were explained, when in 2008, The Grand National Assembly of Turkey put into force legislations in order to regulate the area of "nature and agriculture". This study was focused on the discourse between members of parliament from the ruling and opposition parties during the process of passing bills. The mixed method was chosen as a research method. The research literature was reviewed. Content analysis technique was used in order to describe the content of communication in the newspapers texts. The descriptive analysis by the conceptualization were done while text coding. By the coding frame which was established by concept and data motivated strategies, the frequency of the data has been defined, and the way which the `signification of agriculture` was constructed was investigated. NVIVO 10 computer programme was used in the news coding and frequency analysis. The categories of the State and the Globalization's dominance were understood the importance of the range of the text's content of communication. It was observed that the categories of Agricultural Producer, Modernization and Nature followed these categories. Keywords: Cultural Studies, Globalization and Agriculture, TEKEL, Content Analysis
