The effect of technological device use levels on students academic success and personal variables

The development and widespread use of technology has enabled technological devices to have a direct impact on human life. The fact that technological devices have such a place in human life has revealed the necessity of examining their effects. This research aims to determine the relationship between students' technological device usage levels, grade level, gender, number of siblings, internet connection at home, and academic achievement variables. The model of the research is the general survey model, which is a quantitative model. The study group of the research consists of 634 secondary school students studying in 3 different secondary schools in Malatya province. A four-point Likert-type questionnaire consisting of 13 items was developed in order to determine the technological device usage levels of the students. In addition to the data obtained from the students, the 1-year grade point average of the students was obtained from the school administration. According to the findings, there is a strong relationship between the level of technological device use and the variables of class level and academic achievement. In addition, the relationships between the variables of gender, number of siblings and having internet connection at home with the level of use of technological devices show a more less relationship than the variables of grade level and academic achievement. As the grade level of the students increases, they exhibit more intense use of technological devices and they have more problems with their families due to technological devices. When this situation is examined according to the academic achievement variable, as the academic achievement decreases, the use of technological devices increases and the frequency of problems arising from family and technological devices increases.
