Investigation of the treatability of textile wastewater by electrocoagulation, ozone and electrocoagulation-ozone methods

Abstract (EN)

The chemical properties of dyestuffs used in the textile industry differ. Wastewater from the textile industry has a toxic effect on the environment. In this study, optimum treatment conditions of ozone, electrocoagulation and ozone-electrocoagulation methods were investigated for textile wastewater sample containing Sunfix Yellow Spd, Sunfix Red Spd and Reactobond Black B dye mixture. For the experimental results, measurements were made at 436, 525 and 620 wavelengths for COD and color analysis. The COD removal efficiency for the electrocoagulation process was 76.75%, in color analysis, it was found as 87.72%, 91.54% and 92.02% for the wavelengths of 436, 525 and 630, respectively. The COD removal efficiency for the ozone process was 90.46%, in color analysis, it was found to be 94.88%, 97.50% and 98.91% for 436, 525 and 630 wavelengths, respectively. The COD removal efficiency for the ozone-electrocoagulation process was 87.88%, in color analysis, it was found as 96.70%, 98.45% and 99.18% for 436, 525 and 630 wavelengths, respectively. As a result, it seems that the most suitable treatment method is ozone-electrocoagulation when the treatment efficiencies and operating costs were compared.
