Abstract (EN)

The increase of world population with increasing of their demands as propartionally brings the industrial needs which grow together. The dyestuff especially reactive dyes produced for textile industry which use water very extensively for washing and stability purposes contaminates the aquatic media. This causes environmental problems as preventing light penetration and producing toxic materials. Various physical and chemical processes such a adsorption, flocculation and precipitation can be used for color removal from textile indusrty to overcome these problems. These techniques however are non-destructive which transfer pollutant from liquid media into sludge that needs to be processed further. In recent years, advanced oxidation processes have been developed as an alternative method for the effective wastewater treatment. Photocatalytic oxidation is one of the advanced oxidation process used for complete degradation of organic pollutants to the end products such as CO2 and H2O. The main objective of this study was removal of azo dyestuff of Rective Red 195 and Reactive Black 5 by photocatalytic oxidation. In experiments UV-C as a light source was used with TiO2 catalyst and dyes. The effect of various parameters of these colors prepared as stock solution were studied as pH, temperature, mixing rate, aeration rate, light intensity and initial color concentration for degradation of colors. Maximum color degradation of 100 mg/L of Reactive Red 195 and 50 mg/L Reactive Black 5 concentration under UV-C light were found as % 83,6 and % 80,1 respectively. These results of the study suggest that TiO2/UV-C photocatalyst can be used as a method for the color degradation of textile industry.
