Production of scented microcapsule used in textile industry with polyurethane

In this study, scent (methyl cedryl ketone) used in textile industry was encapsulate with polyurethaneurea (PUU) by using interfacial polymerization methods. Scent emulsified in water (O W, oil/water) with three different emulsifying agents for the most stable state. The capsule shell was formed with the PUU (isocyanate / polyalcohol / polyamine) mol ratio (5.4 /3.0-5.4/1.5-3.9), the main component of the capsule shell, at a reaction of, 80oC in 240 min. These obtained capsules were fixed on cotton, polyester, silk and non-woven fabric and their stability was investigated. Analysis of the structure of toluene diisocyanate, empty and containing fragrance capsule shell in the IR spectroscopy, stability and dimensions of emulsified droplets by optical microscope, dimensions of the capsules, wall thickness and their holding onto the fabric by scanning electron microscope and the thermal degradation of the capsule wall material by thermo gravimetric analysis were investigated. The yield of the obtained capsules was found to be 65.09-85.02%, the thickness of the capsule wall was about 384.6- 1250 nm, the loss of active substance 20 oC for 60 days was 5.5-8.5% and after fixation on the fabrics, it was found to be stable up to 4 washes in the domestic washing machine.
