Translation of the texts on textile: An examination of the model descriptions specified in a French technical specification on the clothing of airport security personnel and its translation into Turkish

The textile sector is the basis of dressing, which stands out with its new technological products today and which is one of the first needs since the beginning of humanity. With the emergence of this sector, the field has gradually expanded, and new fields have emerged. Thus, new products have been introduced to the sector and naturally, they have emerged as products that have entered the textile market, which has been affected by international interaction. As a result, the textile industry has taken an important place in imports and exports and the need for translation has increased. The need for the translation of textile texts is directly proportional to the breadth and development of the field. The texts whose translation is most needed are the texts that provide communication between companies or between the company and the society. In this thesis, the definition and scope of textile and ready-made clothing, the field of textile and its sub-fields are mentioned, its historical process, its current place, and the distribution of countries where import and export are made are included. In addition, technical textiles, which are a new branch of textile texts, which are not known much by the society, are briefly mentioned. Afterwards, textile texts were briefly mentioned by referring to the text and text types. In general, textile texts are handled in two groups and examples of these text types are given. When these text types are evaluated in the context of technical translation, technical translation and expert translation are discussed. Specialized translation and technical translation discussions and technical translation process are included. Within the scope of the thesis, the model descriptions in the technical specifications used between the companies in the textile sector and the manufacturers are included; The translation process of textile texts is mentioned, and the Turkish translations of the French texts are included, and examples are provided by examining the approaches and methods that can be applied in the translation of these texts. In this context, the translation difficulties and solutions encountered in the translation process of model descriptions and suggestions for translators who are considering working in this field are presented.
