The effects of telehealth service on paretns'teaching behaviors and learning outcomes of their children

The effects of the telehealth intervention provided to train mothers of children with autsim spectrum disorder to use the simultaneous prompting procedure accurately and the effects of simultaneous prompting procedure provided by mothers in teaching various target skills to their children with autism spectrum disorder were analyzed. The study was initiated with four mother-child dyads. However, since there is a subject attrition for one mother-child dyad, the study is completed with three mother-child dyads. A non-concurent multiple baseline designs across dyads was used in a nested design. Telehealth intervention was utilized when a consistent baseline data was collected with the first mother. The researcher continued to collect baseline data from the remaining mothers. Once the criterion was reached with the first mother, the researchers started to provide tele-health intervention to the second mother and third mother subsequently in a same manner. Results of the study showed that tele-health intervention was effective in training mothers of children with autism spectrum disorder to use simultaneous prompting procedure accurately. Mothers' data also showed that they were able to maintain and generalized the acquired teaching behaviors over time and across settings. Moreover, the findings also showed the children learned their target skills to a certain extent. Due to time constrains maintenance and generalization data were not collected from the children. Last, mothers' opinions towards the use of telehealth intervention were positive in general.
