Representation of Kurdish identity in television serials: The example of "hayat türküsü"

Today, Kurdish Matter becomes one of the concepts that we heard at any time. Though we do not feel much its effects, in news bulletin or in newscasts it is always mentioned about Kurdish Matter and also its resolution process. In the point arrived at this matter is talked and discussed loudly and clearly any more no matter it is called government's own policy or government's compulsory policy caused by social pressure consisting social hurts. Identity policies that started at the last period of Ottoman Empire in different forms and accepted with an effort to form a nation state pattern with the establishment of Turkish Republic are indisputable reason of the problem network been carried until today. The Government's fundamental identity policy to assimilate via accepting identities as `other? which are out of Turkish identity extremely came into prominence in Kurdish identity which is considered as a threat as to an idea because the excess in number relatively to other identities. The government had used all its factors to perform this assimilation policy. These may be listed as military, education and mass media. When it is thought the strong impact of drama on media factor at a time before TV it is tried to form an ideal identity (nation identity) through the instrument of motion pictures. At the period of TV this duty is transferred to the television serials. TV and TV serials began to take the place of Yeşilçam period which decreased its effect after 80?s. In this study, `representation of Kurdish identity in TV serials? is analyzed so as to show continuing process of the policies that kept in different forms. Through the ends of 90?s serials in the east atmosphere take an important place. VASİYET, ASMALI KONAK, GURBET KADINI, YABANCI DAMAT, ZERDA can be given simply as examples and many series like these have still being shoot. Representation of Kurdish identity in HAYAT TÜRKÜSÜ was analyzed for both its topic and for its touch to different points. But in this study it is not claimed that the questioned problems are only in the east stories. On the contrary it is thought that representation problem is in all TV serials.
