Abstract (EN)
Within the patriarchal structure, men establish domination over women and ensure that individuals internalize this domination within the social structure by maintaining it in their daily life practices. A group of men who hold power within the patriarchal social structure legitimize their domination over women and other men through certain structures. Television is one of the most easily accessible mass media. Television contents such as TV series, commercials, game shows, etc. convey certain messages to the audience. These contents contain certain codes related to patriarchal ideology and are presented as fictions that the dominant discourse wants to convey. Therefore, TV series are in an important position to analyze power and gender relations in society. The aim of this study is to reveal the gendered power relations through the ways in which gender and hegemonic masculinity norms created within the patriarchal structure are reflected in everyday life in the series by examining the series "Yali Çapkını". The codes of gender and hegemonic masculinity in the series were categorized thematically, the discourses of the characters in the series were examined through discourse analysis method and masculine discourses were interpreted under various categories. In the series, cultural norms and forms of masculinity glorified within patriarchal ideology are frequently included. The male and female characters in the series are under the hegemony of the oldest and most powerful man. This hegemony is presented in accordance with hegemonic masculinity. The fact that all women in the series are under male hegemony, that older and rich men dominate younger and rich men, that younger men dominate poorer men, that boss men dominate working men, shows that popular content in the media is constructed within the framework of patriarchal ideology. KEYWORDS: Patriarchal Structure, Gender, Hegemonic Masculinity, Yalı Çapkını.
