Morning newscasts in television journalism: Case of Fox TV and ATV

In this thesis named as Morning Newscasts in Television Journalism: Case of Fox TV and ATV, it is tried to determine what kind of contents the popular, highly preffered morning news programs have. From the 1990's, beginning of broadcasting of private television channels in Turkey, till today morning news programs developed and changed in parallel with the progress and change in communication technologies throughout the process. In this thesis, which is dedicated to analyze this process and alteration, the morning news programs broadcasted on Fox TV and ATV channels between 6-12 November 2017 are discussed by considering also programs' ratings. In that content analysis performed by evaluating the results obtained by digitizing the data, the number of video news, the structure of live broadcast guests, the number of local, national and international newspapers read, the coverage of social media content, the time spent on magazinish items and the variety of news from these morning news programs included in the research, are taken into consideration. During the examination performed in the context of key components, anchormanship, new media, citizen journalism, infotainment and localization has been emerged as prominent sections. The result according to the analysis performed within the scope of the study is: television meets the needs of the viewer in the scale of the morning news programs. In addition, there have been significant changes in morning news programs with the beginning of private television. Broadcasting policies of television channels and editorial processes are influential in determining the news to be brought to the screen. News are selected for target groups, social media is used frequently as news source. Morning news programs have content that composed to entertain and ease the audience. Another finding of the study is that the anchormen of morning news programs affected directly the content of the broadcasts.
