ABSTRACT A STUDY ON THE TELEVISION ADVERTISEMENTS FROM TEE POINT OF SPEECH-SOUND HARMONY (PP.OSODY) AND ITS INFLUENCE ON THE RHYTHM OF OUR LANGUAGE M.Sc. Thesis C.Hakan Çuhadar February-19S6 GAZI UNIVERSITY INSTITUE OF NATURAL SCIENCES Problem : To what extend are the prosodies of advertisement melodies, which are broadcast on the television, correct? In the present research, the advertisements, which have vocal melody and are broadcast on the television, were studied from the point of prosody; it has been tried to expose that fche defects of prosody may affect the language. In order to detect the prosody defects, first of all, the natural stress structure of the language should be well-known. Then, the passage to be composed should be composed according to the known prosody rules. Furthermore, in order to detect the degree of the influence of the television advertisements on children between the ages 0-6,a quastionnaire was given to the children. The result of the questionnaire showed vithat children belonging to this age group are much affected by the television advertisements. And, unfortunately, mo s t of the television adverti sements, whose prosodies were studied, were found to have prosody defects. In the light of these findings, it has been predic ted that Turkish language may be de s true ted in the future. In order to prevent this, it has been sugges ted that television advertisements and other publica tions which are followed by children with great interest, should be controlled by the authorities very carefully.
