Abstract (EN)
Kalkan , Servet. Protection of Children from Harmful Contents in Television Broadcasts. (Analysis of the International Law, Turkish Law, and Regulations in TRNC Law) Master Thesis, Ankara, 2007.Most of the Television programs are those which are not appropriate for children. Child is not always competent to distinguish programs that s/he should watch from the ones that s/he should not watch. Recently, the extensive impact of television on children?s behaviors has become an incontrovertible issue. This study is related to the interests of children in their TV program preferences. The questioner is applied to students who are studying in Haydarpaşa Trade Lice in Turkish Republic of North Cyprus. The questioner form includes both questions asking which programs are mostly watched and which TV channels are displaying these mostly watched programs. The answers of the questioner are dealt with SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) method, and divergencies are examined according to the age and sex variables. Additionally, related literature is reviewed in this thesis. It is detected that the impact-ratio from dangerous TV contents of children is connected with age, watched programs and TV watching times. Moreover, it is uncovered that the reflection of TV program contents on children is linked with the parents? attitudes towards these contents. Rather than being educative , TV programs for children are prepared with the aim of increasing the rating levels, as such; it could be concluded that educative and non-violent child programs are essentially required. The ways for avoiding children from harmful TV contents and extra precautions that parents would additionally take, are all described in this study.Key Words:1.Television2.Child3.Program and Types4.Legal Regulations
