Social-economic status of Skopje Central District according to Temettuat Registers (H.1261)

Temettuat Registers are one of the archival sources that contain important information about the 19th century Ottoman Empire. In addition, Temettuat is one of the first-hand sources that contain rich information about the region where the records are made and the people living in the region. Temettuat Registers with catalog numbers 15471, 15472, 15473 and 15475, which are the subject of the thesis, H. 1261/M. It covers the years 1845-1846 and consists of 243 pages and 123 documents. In the first part of the thesis, with a general point of view, the historical development process of Skopje and the importance of the examined Temettuat Registers in Ottoman History are given. In the second, third, fourth and fifth chapters, the social-economic situation of the Skopje Central District in H. 1261 was examined in the light of the information contained in the four Temettuat Registers. In the sixth chapter, the transcriptions of the notebooks are included. This study is to illuminate the history of Skopje Central District, which is the important center of the Ottoman Empire in the Balkans, and to contribute to Skopje History research.
