Evaluation the effect of education for environmental services personnel and for responsible unit nurses on surface cleaning

INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVE: Health care-associated infections (HAI) remain a major cause of patient morbidity and mortality around the world. One of the important phases to inhibit HAI is to reduce the contamination risk by supplying the enviromental cleaning. The interventions in the field of cleaning contribute to improving cleaning in the hospitals. For this reason, in this study, it is aimed to evaluate the effect of education forenvironmental services personnel and for responsible unit nurses on surface cleaning. MATERIAL AND METHOD: Experimentally planned study-getting the permission for ethical committee between the dates October, 2018- March, 2019- is applied with 35environmental services personnel and nine responsible unit nurses working at state hospital. 200 surfaces are identified in the study in which moderate and high risky areas are included. In te study, the data is collected by using herbal dye of which patent is obtained and shows fluorescent caharacteristics under ultraviolet light and also by using fluorescent light in order to identify whether the surface is clean or not. Evaluation of data is done by using frequency distribution in computer environment, chi square test and Cohran's Q test. FINDINGS: Assesing 200 surface in total, in examination which is done uninformed before education, it is seen that the rate of clean area is %46,5, and when the examination is done after the education, the rate increases to %71,5 . As a resut of evaluation, which contains first and second assesment results and also feed back related with areas supposed to be cleaned in the future, ıt ıs detected that the rate of clean field is %94,5. CONCLUSION: It is identified that the education given to environmental services personnel and responsible unıt nurses increases the rate of surface cleaning in the hospitals.
