Abstract (EN)
The use of dermal fat grafts in the surgical treatment of temporomandibular joint ankylosis is a current treatment approach, however the treatment technique is still discussed within the literature. This thesis was carried out to evaluate postoperative morbidity in patients with using dermal fat grafts following the surgical treatment of temporomandibular joint ankylosis. The operations were performed by the same team, between 2015-2019 years, in Gazi University Faculty of Dentistry, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. In this study, data of 12 patients, 9 women and 3 men, were evaluated. The indication for the use of dermal fat graft following temporomandibular joint ankylosis surgery. According to the obtained data, it was observed that, the post-operative mouth opening increased significantly, the quality of life got better and the satisfaction rate was high in all operated patients. In addition, the length and width of the scar in the both surgical areas and the appearance of the scar (keloid, hypertrophic, normal) were evaluated. This study showed that using autogenous dermal fat graft is successful in the treatment of temporomandibular joint ankylosis and it is a safe method that does not cause serious morbidity in patients in the long term following. The purpose of this study is to evalute that dermal fat is a good choice in TMJ ankylosis treatment as an interpositional graft material.
