Comparison of uniknot (a sailor knot) and simple knot on core sutures of tendon repair: Experimental study

Abstract (EN)
From past to present, there was a lot of views and methods for treating tendon lacerations. Myriad surgeons, added new methods for the aim of stronger repair and earlier rehabilitation. İn this process, the significant problems are ruptures and adhesions. Early active exercises have a critic role for avoiding adhesions. But ruptures can exist if repairs are not strong enough.Uniknot, is a sailor knot, combinated with traditional methods and compared with simple knot, in this study. The goal is, decreasing postoperative ruptures. Uniknot and simple knot combinated with Bunnell and modified Kessler methods. There are ten tendon repairs in each group. After repairs, tendons? pulling forces of rupture, 1mm and 2mm elongation were measured with Shimadzu AS-IG (100kN), Trapezium program showed datas on grafics. Measurements evaluated with SPSS 15.0 and Mann-Whitney test statistically.After sacrificing of 2-3 months old Ross type chickens for commercial purposes, legs were taken and saved in a storage box with ice and water in it. In 24 hours, FDP of third finger excised, cutted and repaired at laboratory. Without wasting time, pulling measurements were done.Repairs with uniknot have higher rates of rupture forces than simple knot?s. But these difference is not statistically significant. There is no differences about 1mm and 2mm elongation forces.Repairs with Bunnell have higher rates of rupture forces than modified Kessler?s and this difference is statistically significant also. There is no differences about 1mm and 2mm elongation forces again.As a result, Bunnell- modified Kessler comparison has more important findings than uniknot-simple knot comparison. Reason of this difference is tightness of Bunnell method because of more crossing the tendon with suture material. Uniknot can be a good alternative for surgeons when stronger repair of tendon is necessary.
