Abstract (EN)

Insects have a significant potential food source in the early future due to various factors, including high-quality oil and protein content, short life cycles, low carbon emissions, and reduced production costs. Recently, insects have gained attention as an alternative nutritional source for both animal and human consumption. Among these species, the mealworm (Tenebrio molitor Linnaeus (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae)) is significant important as one of the most used edible insects for food and forage pray. This study investigates the effects of nine different food sources on the larval and pupal duration, adult lifespan, weight, size, and mortality rates of the Mealworm. The experiments was carried out with 4 replications at 28±2°C and 70±% humidity, 14:4 light: dark conditions in incubators. 5th and 9th food sources and have been identified as the most suitable for promoting healthy and balanced development in the insects. Although 7th food source supported rapid development during the larval stage, it exhibited notably high mortality rates. No growth of larvae was observed with 8th food source. These findings underscore the impact of food sources on the growth and development of Mealworm.
