Abstract (EN)
In this study, it is aimed to I developed as an alternative of densification thermal modification process by a new environmentally method Thermo-Vibro-Mechanical (TVM) process; especially to enhance the resistance characteristics of wood material that has low resistance characteristics. For this purpose, TVM densification press designed and produced with the support of the number of 115O138 TUBITAK project has been used. Subsequently, the samples obtained as radial and tangent cross-section from Uludağ fir (Abies bornmülleriana Mattf.) and black poplar (Populus nigra L.) have been treated with wood stain (aniline) and a colourless oily wood protector to provide product variety before TVM densification process.TVM densification process realized in a fixed linear vibration (100 Hz frequency and 3mm amplitude), three different temperatures (100±3°C, 120±3°C,140±3°C), three different vibration pressures (0,60MPa, 1,00MPa, 1,40MPa) and three different vibration duration (20 sec,60 sec,100 sec).Density (TS 2471, TS 2472), radial and tangential compression direction swelling ratio (TS 4084), colour (ASTM D 2244), brightness (TS EN ISO 2813), bending resistance (TS 2474), elasticity module in bending (TS 2478), parallel pressure resistance to fibers (TS 2595), adhesion resistance (TS EN 205), Brinell hardness (TS 2479), abrasion resistance (ASTM D 4060-14), experiments have been applied to determine the physical, mechanical and technological characteristics of the samples after TVM densification process. Besides, the emerging changings in sample surfaces and chemical structures have been determined by scanning electron microscobe (SEM) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). According to the control samples in TVM densification process; an increase of 15,40% to 38% in the full dry density values, 73.21%-242,64% radial and tanhential compression direction swelling values, 7,65-15,82 color change values, 175%-1393% brightness values, 13% to 52% in the bending resistance values, 11% to 50% in the elasticity module values, 15% to 67% in the parallel pressure strength to fibers values, 5% to 247% adhesion resistance values, 62,6%- 150,50% Brinell hardness values and 15,60%-65,41% abrasion resistance values have been obtained. As a result, it has been determined that the TVM densification process will be a new and environmentally friendly alternative to other wood modification methods and the physical, mechanical and technological properties of Uludağ fir (Abies bornmülleriana Mattf.) and black poplar (Populus nigra L.) woods with low resistance properties have been improved with TVM densification process.
