Employing active learning methods in flipped social studies classes: An action research

Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to determine students' participation in activities and their feelings and thoughts towards the implementation of the Flipped Classroom Model by using active learning methods in flipped social studies classes. The research utilized the qualitative research design of action research. The participants of the research were 21 male and 8 female students studying in the sixth grade of a state school in Zeytinburnu, Istanbul in the 2021-2022 academic year. The data were collected through qualitative data collection tools, including student worksheets, self-evaluation forms, and the researcher's teacher diary. The data obtained from the data collection tools used in the research were subjected to qualitative analysis. The findings obtained as a result of the research revealed that students came prepared to the social studies classes where the Flipped Classroom Model was implemented, actively participated in activities, and demonstrated positive attitudes and behaviors in the learning process.
