Abstract (EN)
Shipyard organisations are large and complex systems, which are organised in a number of different business lines. Since ship production is largely based on joining processes, welding processes are widely applied in almost every part of the shipyard site. These processes differ depending on the area to be applied, the type and structure of the material used. Therefore, workers are exposed to various risks during the process. Physical risk factors such as noise, vibration, thermal radiation, electric current and inadequate lighting emitted from welding machines can lead to health and safety problems such as hearing loss, eye disorders, electric shocks and occupational accidents. Chemical risk factors arise due to the presence of toxic gases, dusts and vapours emitted into the environment during welding operations and the presence of flammable substances such as paint and oil in the welding area. In addition, negligence situations such as leaving gas cylinders open increase the risk of explosion and fire. These physical and chemical risks directly threaten the health and safety of workers. It is of great importance that occupational health and safety practices are carried out effectively in order to protect the health and safety of tertiary persons in the environment as well as employees in the environment where welding processes are carried out. This thesis aims to identify the physical and chemical risks that workers and tertiary persons in the environment may face during welding operations and to analyse these risks with Fine-Kinney and L Type Matrix risk assessment methods.
