Abstract (EN)

SUMMARYThe preventive effect of rosuvastatin in ischemia/reperfusion injury dueto the detorsion of testicular torsionDr. Erdal Karakaya, Dokuz Eylul University Faculty of Medical,Department of Pediatric Surgery, zmir. Background: Treatment of testicular torsion by detorsion may further damagethe testis. The cause of this damage is believed to be the ischemia/reperfusion injury. This study was designed to determine the effect of rosuvastatin in theischemia/reperfusion injury process in rat testis. Methods: Wistar albino rats were used in the experiments. Blood flow of testiswere measured before the torsion (base value), before the detorsion (second value)and 1 hour after detorsion (third value). by using laser Doppler flowmetry. Rats usedin the study were separated into three groups. 1) Sham group (n=5): After the lefttestis exposed by ilioinguinal incision, basal blood flow of testis was determined bylaser Doppler flowmetry. Same process was repeated as to determine the secondand third values in 2. and 3. hours. 2) Torsion/detorsion group (n=8): After 2 hourtorsion of testis second value was measured before the detorsion and third value wasmeasured 1 hour after detorsion. 3) Torsion/detorsion + rosuvastatin group (n=8):after measurement of the basal blood flow rosuvastatin was injected intraperitoneally30 minutes before detorsion of 2 hour torsion second value was measured before thedetorsion and third value was measured 1 hour after detorsion. Results: The basal values obtained from the groups were not significantlydifferent. In torsion/detorsion group and torsion/detorsion + rosuvastatin group bloodflow decreased significantly after the torsion. One hour after the detorsion meanblood flow of torsion/detorsion + rosuvastatin group was not different from shamgroup. Conclusions: In ischemia/reperfusion injury due to the detorsion of testicular torsionrosuvastatin may prevent reperfusion injury.Key words: Testicular torsion, ischemia/reperfusion, rosuvastatin, laserDoppler flowmetry
