VI ZINC DETERMINATION OF DIFFERENT BODY COMPARTMENTS IN THALASSEMIA AND CIRRHOSIS (M. Sc. Thesis) Fadime Nazlı DINGER 6AZI UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY September 1987 ABSTRACT The purpose of this study was compare hair, serum. p lasma erytrocyte? leucocyte zinc levels which is essential trace element in thalassemia and cirrhosis. This survey was performed in two groups of Patients : Thalassemia and cirrhosis both of which cause zinc deficiency. We try to find out which is the best indicator in the body for the determination of zinc levels. Correlation analysis was performed with the data obtained in the experiment. We concluded that serums plasma and hair are the best indicators for measuring the zinc level s. In order to have more accuracy and decide more easilly at least two different compartments must be considerred i.e. plasma and/or serum; hair.
