Türkiye ve seçili AB (Avrupa Birliği) ülkelerinin turizm sektörlerinin ekonomik büyümeye etkisi: 2000-2020 yılları üzerine bir uygulama

The tourism sector, called the flueless industry, brings income to businesses in tourism expenditures, increases production and employment under the influence of investments in the sector, and increases the income level of the region in increasing production and employment. Therefore, tourism is a sector that contributes significantly to economic growth and regional development. In this study, it is aimed to examine the causality relationship between tourism and economic growth within the framework of econometric analysis and to obtain numerical results between the variables according to the econometric analysis results. In studies examining the tourism-economic growth relationship in the literature, the time series econometric model is generally used within the scope of a single country. In recent studies using panel data analysis, the relationship between tourism and economic growth has begun to be examined within the scope of country groups belonging to the same income group or countries in the same region. These studies allow more consistent results to be obtained. For this reason, within the scope of the panel data analysis to be used in the study, data belonging to the variables (real tourism revenues, real GDP, labor force and gross fixed capital formation) of selected countries in the Mediterranean Basin, including Turkey, between the years 2000-2020 were used. As a result of the Panel Dynamic Least Squares analysis test performed in the study, a significant and positive relationship was determined between tourism revenues and economic growth. Although a long-term relationship was not detected as a result of the cointegration test, a bidirectional causality relationship was found between tourism revenues and economic growth as a result of the Panel Causality test.
