Abstract (EN)
This study addresses how the changes and developments related to social studies are progressing in the USA in terms of educational process. Depending on this purpose, articles published in the journal "The Social Studies" that reflect this process were examined in terms of subject and method. In this study, the articles examined by historical method were evaluated in two different categories: content areas of social studies and systematic elements of education. In terms of method; according to data collection techniques, they were classified as qualitative, quantitative and mixed researches. In the articles examined, descriptive analysis was used while determining content areas of social studies and scientific research methods used in the articles. Content analysis was used to determine topics according to the systematic elements of education. At the end of the research, the following results were obtained. History education, one of the content areas of social studies, is the most studied field. Each content area of social studies has evolved towards thematic approach and global education. Developments and changes in the world and US education laws have affected citizenship approaches. Citizenship approaches have directed social studies goals and the study subjects of social studies content areas. It has been tried to find axioms suitable for the flexible structure of social studies. The negative aspects of the marginalization of social studies have been raised. Well as education practices are given in detail, the number of articles containing measurement-evaluation practices are few. The dimensions of teacher education have been considered important in terms of professionalization in education.
