The alienation problem in 'Neden' and 'Mahzen' from Thomas Bernhard's five autobiographical works.

Alienation is one of the major problems of our times. This concept has been generally used in the fields of economics and philosophy and later has appeared in the fields of psychology and sociology. A number of results arising from industrial revolution have affected social structure and development, too and created several problems. Alienation from one of this problems has become a basis phenomenon that concerns the humans of modern world. This concept, which was used in the field of theology for the first time, has won the quality of theory in philosophy and other fields. This concept, which was commented by a lot of philosophers, has been analysed many times and has even become a matter of debate. Because of a being a factor that affects the humans, alineation has become a motive that is used in literature, too.The alienation problem has an important place in literature science, too. Accordingly, the first two of five autobiographical works of Thomas Bernhard, one of the important authors in German Literature of the postwar era, are analysed within the scope of this phenomenon with the method that its place in other different fields is analysed from a different viewpoint of many thinkers.This thesis includes the following main purposes:Primarily, to give a general information about the bioraphy, works and the hometown of Thomas Bernhard, Austria,To analyse the alienation concept in terms of etymology, to give historical information about the origin of it and to deal it theoretically, to mention the dimensions and reasons of it and to analyse its place in the field of literature with sample authors and their literary Works,To give a general information about the five autobiographical works of Bernhard and to analyze the two of these Works within the frame of alienation phenomenon.These two autobiographical works of Bernhard have been analyzed from the perspective of psychoanalytic and within the scope of alienation problem, establishing relationship between the concepts of loneliness and alienation. Before analysing the alienation motive in these two works, it is aimed to give a general information about Bernhard?s all autobiographical works. In order to understand his other literary works better, it is pursued the goal to mention his life and in this way to analyze his pentalogical works.As a result, it's asked to be put forward through this two literary works, how Bernhard, one of the important representatives of German Literature, fell into loneliness because of having difficulties in his life, how he isolated himself from almost everything due to the being full of hate against most things and thus how he lived in alienationKeywords: Thomas Bernhard, Austrian History and Literature, Loneliness, Pentalogy, Alienation Phenomenon.
