The importance of commercial information in logistics sector competitiveness: Iğdır example

Information has been perceived as "power" throughout the history. The age in which we are living is described as "the age of information" and the concept of the age of information that results from the consequence of globalization is interrelated with the terms of "change" and "competition", which are still the outputs of globalization. Those who can obtain valuable information and utilize it effectively in terms of businesses can attain a significantly strategic power. Nowadays, the ability of businesses in the acquisition of information, transformation of available information into product and the control of the information have become the fundamental requirement of economic growth, productivity and ability in competing with other companies. In this respect, companies in logistic sector can have the opportunity of creating competition by using commercial information effectively and widely in the practices they are carrying out. In the consideration of the views stated above, the study aimed to investigate the acquisition of desired information in logistic studies, its evaluation, utilization, sharing and the importance of storage process for re-utilization and the relationship between logistic sector and commercial information. In the theoretical part of the study, commercial information was dealt with in terms of conceptual and historical point of view; management of commercial information, supply chain management and terms of logistic sector were analyzed. Moreover, the subjects such as the importance and the development of logistic sector in the world and in Turkey and its competitive power were handled. In the empirical section of the study, a survey was conducted to the logistic companies in Iğdır and the obtained data were analyzed.
