Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to examine the animal metaphors in both Turkish and German comparatively in terms of semantics, and also to express the similarities and differences between metaphors and the meanings via examples. In the first part of the study, various definitions of 'metaphor' are mentioned, and rhetorical terms closely related to the metaphor are explained. Linguistic studies concerning metaphor are examined in both Turkish and German. In addition, theories of metaphor are stated. In the second part, the notion of 'animal metaphor' is discussed, and it is aimed to define 'animal metaphor' as a type of metaphor through Turkish and German examples in terms of conceptual-semantics. Also, the effect of Turkish and German cultures on metaphor is referred in the study. In the third part, the usage of synonyms and antonyms of animal metaphors in Turkish and German is demonstrated in a comparatively semantic manner. Moreover, the denotative and connotative analyses of animal metaphors are emphasized. In the last part of the study, a short summary regarding the main topics is given as a conclusion. Besides, the similarities and differences of animal metaphors used in Turkish and German in terms of semantics are revealed.
