Abstract (EN)

Today, intravenous catheters, the most common cause of bloodstream infections, led to high mortality, prolonged hospitalization (staying in hospital), and increasing costs. Staphylococci constitute 75-90 % of all catheter-related infections. Coagulase-negative staphylococci (CNS) are responsible for 35-50 % of these infections and more adhesive to plastic catheters than other microorganisms. Methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) is in the second place (15-20%) of the most common factors after the CNS. Today, antibiotic resistance is a major problem. Treatment options for catheter infections related to MRSA is restricted. Tigecycline is a broad-spectrum, well tolerated, injectable and new glycylcycline antibiotic. In this study, in vitro MRSA biofilm model, we aimed to compare the efficacy of tigecycline and vancomycin. To this end, the silicone disks which we?ve created biofilm layer, were exposed tigecycline and vancomycin for 24 hours and 5 days of 4-hour daily in the model of antibiotic lock therapy. As a result, tigecycline was found to be more effective than vancomycin to the biofilm layer, statistically. According to these results, tigecycline might be a good alternative treatment options in the treatment of catheter infections.
