Abstract (EN)

The main aim of this study is to investigate the effect of TiO2 addition on physical and mechanical properties of alumina based ceramics. In the experiments, Alcoa alumina in 0,4 µm TiO2 in 0,1 µm that have commercially purity are used. TiO2 is added to alumina at 5-10-15 wt. % ratios. Powder compositions are wet milled to obtain a homogeneous mixture and then dried in a drying oven. The powdered mixtures were moisturized by 5 wt.% and then grounded under 500 µm to obtain granules. The granules were dry pressed under 100 MPa and dried. The pressed patterns are incubated for obviate the physical water from the patterns. Dried specimens were sintered for 2 hours at 1500?1550?1600?1650 oC. To investigate of the sintered specimens properties firing shrinkage, porosity, bulk density, water absorption, relative density, three point bending strength and hardness tests were done. Furthermore, new phases formed after sintering were detected by XRD analysis. Microstructural analysis of initial powders and sintered specimens were characterized by SEM. With the assistance of physical and mechanical experiments results, the effect of TiO2 additions and sintering temperature on the sintered samples properties are given and discussed.Key words: Alumina, TiO2, Sintering, Ceramic, Composite
