Özet (EN)

One of the main goals and purposes of investigations in forensic cases is to determine the identities of the individual or individuals involved in the event in a short time and with accuracy. Skeletal materials that have lost their structural integrity, decomposed over time and become unrecognizable by burning in a severe degree are encountered in events that have gained the quality of forensic cases. Forensic identification of remains that have lost their soft tissue by becoming skeletons is one of the concepts that require meticulousness and care in forensic anthropology studies. The studies that have been done should be found in the scientific literature and proven in their validity and reliability. In our thesis study, which was carried out in the anthropology laboratory of Hitit University, an evaluation and discussion was made about the emergence of forensic anthropological techniques, the detailed explanation of the methods found in the scientific community, and what kind of forensic anthropological identification methods should be used according to which situations. This study aims to identify the skeletons excavated from the ancient city of Tios, located in the Çaycuma district of Zonguldak province, which was dated to the Byzantine period, with the morphological methods used in forensic anthropology. The applicability of forensic anthropological identification techniques based on morphological methods to skeletal materials was tested on 55 skeletal materials belonging to the population of the ancient city of Tios.
