Abstract (EN)

The aim of this research; whether there is a significant difference between the levels of depression, anxiety and hopelessness among adolescents with type 1 diabetes and those without type 1 diabetes; The aim of this study was to investigate whether there is a significant relationship between depression, anxiety and hopelessness levels and some demographic characteristics (gender, age and time of diagnosis) of adolescents with type 1 diabetes. The universe of the study consisted of type 1 diabetes patients aged between 12-18 years, admitted to Diyarbakır Pediatric Hospital Endocrinology Polyclinic, students studying in Ziya Gökalp Anatolian High School in Diyarbakır Province, and 7th and 8th grade students of Akşemsettin Middle School. The students of Ziya Gökalp Anatolian High School in Diyarbakır Province and Akşemsettin Secondary School 7th and 8th grade students consist of 216 non-diabetic students. 121 of the participants were female and 95 were male. Depression Scale for Children, Beck Anxiety Scale, Beck Hopelessness Scale and personal information form were applied to these individuals. Depending on the data obtained from these scales, descriptive statistical methods and independent samples t-Test technique were used to compare the two groups. As a result of the research; Depression did not differ according to gender, age group and duration of diagnosis in adolescents with type 1 diabetes. It was found that anxiety was differentiated according to gender and diagnostic variables but did not differ according to age group, and hopelessness did not differ according to gender, age group and duration of diagnosis. There was a statistically significant difference between the levels of depression, anxiety and hopelessness among adolescents with type 1 diabetes and without type 1 diabetes. The findings obtained from the research data were interpreted according to the literature; recommendations were made for researchers and practitioners.
