Examination of the relationship between anxiety, perceived stress, strategies of coping with stress, emotion regulation and psychological resilience in parents of children with type 1 diabetes during covid-19 pandemic

It is known that anxiety increases in chronic illness during pandemic periods. The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between anxiety, perceives stress, strategies of coping with stress, emotion regulation and psychological resilience in type 1 diabetes parents and to compare this with healthy child parents. In this study, 120 parents (case group) (n=120) who have 2-18 years- old children followed at least for 6 months in state hospital peditaric endocrinology clinic and 120 healthy children's parents (control group) (n=120) participated. Sociodemographic form, short form of COVID-19 Anxiety Scale, Beck Anxiety Inventory, Multi-Dimensional COVID-19 Scale, Perceived Stress Scale-10, Short Form of Strategy Coping Stress (BÇSÖ-KF), Short Form of Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale (DDGÖ-16), Short Form of Brief Resilience Scale were applied and data was analyzed with SPSS 26. There is significant difference between control and case group related with feelings, thoughts, behaviors and preventions, anxiety levels, emotion regulationsand stres coping strategies (p<0,05); also in terms of emotion regulation and stress coping they use different strategies. Parents who have children with chronic illnesses may benefit from psychological support in pandemic situations which has a stressful effect.
