Abstract (EN)

This randomized controlled trial was conducted to examine the effects of model-based serious game on metabolic control, self-efficacy, and quality of life in children with type 1 diabetes mellitus. Fifty-eight children were included in the study and randomized into experimental (n=29) and control (n=29) groups. The experimental group received diabetes education through serious play, while the control group received routine diabetes education. Data were collected using the "Introductory Information Form," "Metabolic Control Form," "Quality of Life Scale," and "Diabetes Management Self-Efficacy Scale" before the intervention and at weeks 12 and 15. Statistical analyses used independent samples t-tests, ANOVA, and Bonferroni tests for repeated measures. The study found no significant difference in mean HbA1c levels, self-efficacy, or quality of life scores between the pre-intervention groups (p>0.05). However, significant differences were found in mean HbA1c levels (p<0.001), self-efficacy (p<0.001), and quality of life (p<0.05) scores between the experimental and control groups after the intervention. In conclusion, it was determined that education delivered through model-based serious game was effective in improving metabolic control, increasing self-efficacy, and improving quality of life in children with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus.
