TYPE 2 functional rating- fatigue scale for the treatment of chronic disease in diabetes patients ' validity and reliability study of the Turkish version

This study aims to adapt The Functional Assessment of Chronic Illnesses Therapy Fatique Scale(FACIT Fatique Scale) developed by Cella et al. into Turkish and determinate its reliability and validity in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. The study was conducted methodically with 133 type 2 diabetic patients referred to diabetes follow-up and education outpatient clinics of three hospitals in city centre of Balıkesir. Data collection enstruments were Informative Form developed by researcher and FACIT Fatique Scale while face to face interview method was performed. Turkish version of scale was obtained using forward-back translation techniques. Realiability of Turkish version of scale was assessed by using internal consistency and item analysis methods. Chronbach Alpha measurement was found to be 0.98 while item analysis revealed that all inter-item correlations were significantly high. Exploratory factor analysis methods were used in determination of construct validity and overall factor loadings were found in range of 0.61 and 0.81. Factor analysis results revealed a two-factor solution in Turkish version of scale different from original scale. In conclusion; analyses carried out for the reliability and validity of FACIT Fatique Scale resulted that it was a sufficient psychometric tool in determination of fatique level in patients with type 2 diabetes in Turkish population.
