Abstract (EN)

Introduction and objective: The risks of cardiovascular disease and accordingly death rate are quite high in diabetic patients. The study's object is to evaluate the knowledge level of the patients about the risks of cardiovascular disease and other risk factors of diabetes. Materials and methods: This descriptive and cross-sectional research is studied in T.C Ministry of Health Sakarya University, Training and Research Hospital, internal diseases clinical, diabete polyclinic between the dates 01.11.2019 – 30.04.2020. This study includes patients who applied to the diabete polyclinic, was diagnosed with type-II diabete, accepted to be participate in the study and are older than eighteen years. Personal information form and cardiovascular disease risk factors knowledge level (CARRF-KL) scale are applied to the participant patients. The datas are transferred to IBM SPSS Statistics 23 programme, then statically evaluated. Results: While the age average of 187 participants is 58.18 +- 10.27, participants are 54.5% female and 45,5% male. The ten-year cardiovascular risk mean of the participant is determined as 15.41+-7.13. Furthermore, the mean of CARRF-KL scale of patients is 22.14+-2.91. It is determined that only the family structure affects the knowledge level of cardiovascular diseases. It is also recorded that CARRF-KL scales of the members of cohabitant extended families are high rated. It is determined that Framingham score has positive correlation with gender (male), eld, smoking, period of diabete disease, cardiovascular disease in family and utilization of insulin in diabete treatment. Relation between knowledge level and risk score is not detected. Conclusion: CARRF-KL of participants can be expressed as medium level. It is required to closely watch the diabete patients in terms of cardiovascular disease risks and to inform the patients about cardiovascular disease risk factors during training of the patients.
