Özet (EN)

The aim of this study is to evaluate the impact of adherence to the Mediterranean diet, healthy eating obsession, circadian rhythm, and functional status on depression in women with type 2 diabetes. The participants were female volunteers with type 2 diabetes aged 20-65 who presented to the Internal Endocrinology Department of Isparta Süleyman Demirel University Research and Application Hospital. Data were collected through face-to-face interviews using a researcher-administered questionnaire covering general information, health and disease details, dietary habits, anthropometric measurements, biochemical findings, diabetes information, depression status (Beck Depression Scale), adherence to the Mediterranean diet (Mediterranean Diet Adherence Scale), eating obsession status (ORTO-R Healthy Eating Obsession), functional status (COOP- WONCA), morningness-eveningness mood (Morningness-Eveningness Questionnaire- MEDAS), and food consumption status (24-Hour Dietary Recall). All participants were female, with the majority (84.6%) in the 45-65 age range. Of the women, 89.1% were obese, 10.9% were within the normal weight, and none were underweight. Regarding depression symptoms, 1.4% showed severe, 23.5% moderate, 37.1% mild, and 38% minimal symptoms. Diet quality was rated as poor for 22.2%, fair for 73.8%, and good for 4.1% of participants. A significant relationship was observed between Beck Depression or Scale , Mediterranean diet adherence scale, and functional status. Negative correlations were found between Beck Depression Scale and Mediterranean diet adherence scale. The study emphasizes the importance of improving dietary conditions in individuals with type 2 diabetes, highlighting the relationship between depression and nutrition. Identifying factors influencing depression in type 2 diabetes patients and developing preventive recommendations is crucial.
