Nutrisyonel behaviors and influencing factors in TYPE 2 adult diabetes

Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to reveal the eating habits of adults with type 2 diabetes and to evaluate the relationship between diabetes and diet among this individuals. The study is performed between 4 December 2015 and 31 May 2016 at 25 Aralık State Hospital internal clinics with 210 participants. Personal characteristics, eating habits and features associated with diabetes of the individualsare questioned by applying the questionnaire.Body mass index and waist circumference measurement informations are taken from patient files or requested from the patients. Measurement values of some metabolic variables are received from hospital's network. Blood pressure (hypertension), fasting blood glucose and postprandial blood glucose measurements are received from clinical nurses' records. The ages of the individuals participating in the study ranged from 23 to 92and the average is 58.37 ± 13:11years. To determine the level of knowledge, patients asked about the foods that raise the blood sugar and 84% stated they know the foods raise the blood sugar. According to the results of body mass index, 49% have is above the normal range. There is a significiant relationship between having another family member with diabetes and high-fat diet (p<0.05). According to the results analysis that are performing for revealing the relationship between nutrition and metabolic variables; fasting blood sugar consumption varies according to the value of white bread, postprandial blood sugar-fat diet varies according to the value, hemoglobin A1C values differ according to the consumption of red meat and the value ofLDL varies according to sweet-cake consumption (p>0.05). According to the results of the study, individuals with diabetes shold be educated about nutrition for having more effective diabetes management and improving life quality. eywords: Type 2 diabetes, nutrition, eating habits, diabetes management, nursing.
