The effects of thyroid hormones on glucokinase enyzme activities in diabetic rat livers

In our study, our aim was to investigate the glucokinase enzyme activities ofliver tissues of streptozotocin diabetic, thyroidectomized and insulin and thyroid hormone treatedrats.Our results showed that the glucokinase enzyme activities were decreased in 5week-old diabetic rat liver tissues when compared with control group. Moreover it was observedthat the enzyme activities were slightly regulated by insulin treatment.On the other hand, no changes were observed on the enzyme activities of 5-week-old thyroidectomized diabetic rat liver tissues after the insulin treatment but they wereregulated by the various doses of thyroid hormone treatments.As a result we can conclude that the normalised diabetic induce changes in livertissues of glucokinase enzyme activities after the insulin treatment may the depend on the possiblecontributions of thyroid hormones.
