Analysis of factors on voice quality at thyroidectomy patients

Abstract (EN)

This is a prospective study aimed to examine the factors in post-thyroidectomy patients. Between May 2019-March 2021, enrolled 62 consecutive patients, planned to total thyroidectomy at Mugla Training and Research Hospital in a row. Patients were operated on with intermittent neuromonitoring and outputs were recorded. Fifty- two patients without loss of signal were evaluated for voice quality. Acoustic parameters, aerodynamic parameters, VHI-10, VRQOL were analyzed. The patients were performed with objective and subjective analysis preoperatively and 1 month, 3 month, 6 months postoperatively. The objective analysis (acoustic and aerodynamic parameters) was not different (p>0,05) but subjective analysis (VHI-10, VRQOL) was changed before and after the operation (p<0,05). Recurrent and vagus nerve showed no difference between before and after resection. The amplitude levels were evaluated between sex. Females left V1 had higher amplitudes (p=0,031). F0 postoperative 1 Month (p=0,008) and F0 6 months (p=0,012) showed positive moderate correlation with R2-R1 amplitude difference. F0 postoperative 6 months showed moderate correlation with V2-V1 amplitude differences (p=0,043). NHR showed a negative correlation with V2-V1 amplitude difference (p=0,022). In the sixth postoperative month, the S/Z ratio and preoperative VHI showed a difference between malign and benign patients. The study revealed that using neuromonitoring at thyroidectomy patients had positive results on voice outcomes. The use of neuromonitoring in thyroid surgery is beneficial for patients and neuromonitoring is a reliable instrument in thyroid surgery. The patients planned for thyroid surgery should have voice assessment.
